Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Sankofa Family Medicine, from membership to care to getting started.

Membership

You see the same doctor for every visit. Over time, your doctor builds a deep understanding of your history, your patterns, and what works for you, so care decisions build on what came before rather than starting over. If your doctor is ever temporarily unavailable, any covering doctor will be fully briefed on your care. When your doctor returns, they pick up exactly where things left off. Your context carries forward.
Membership includes scheduled virtual visits with your doctor, secure messaging during business hours, baseline health assessment including labs and a genetic health panel when clinically appropriate, chronic condition management, proactive health planning, medication management, referral support, and lab result review.
Membership does not include emergency or urgent care, around-the-clock availability, same-day appointments as standard, hospital care, imaging, procedures, specialist fees, or prescription costs.

Getting Started

No. Joining the waitlist does not establish a physician-patient relationship. That relationship begins only after you enroll and have your first visit, subject to physician judgment about clinical fit.

Join the Founders Waitlist. When enrollment opens, we will reach out with next steps including intake, membership details, and scheduling your first visit through our secure patient portal.

Virtual Care

Virtual visits are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. You'll receive a link before your appointment and can join from any device with a camera and internet connection.
Most primary care concerns can be effectively addressed via telehealth, including acute illnesses, chronic disease management, medication management, mental health support, preventive care planning, and lab result reviews. Some conditions may require in-person evaluation.

Payment

Sankofa Family Medicine is a direct-pay, membership-based practice. We do not bill insurance companies for primary care membership fees or services. Keep your insurance for emergencies, specialists, imaging, and prescriptions.
When the practice launches, membership will be billed monthly through our secure patient portal. We will accept major credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers.

Safety

No. Sankofa Family Medicine does not replace emergency services. If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, neurological symptoms, severe injury, or any life-threatening condition, call 911 or seek immediate emergency care.
Yes. We are fully HIPAA-compliant. All video visits, messaging, and health records are encrypted and stored securely. We use enterprise-grade security practices and never sell or share your data.
